An Important Moment by Taylor Kasey

A very important moment in my life was when I messed up my knee and elbow. It was during the summer time. I was outside in the burning, hot sun playing with my brothers and their friends. We were having races up and down the street with each other. In the last race, it was my brother, one of his friends, and me. I was in first place but then my whole world crashed all around me.
`I had tripped on some rocks and I had fallen on my knee and elbow. I started to freak out, because when I look at my knee, all I could see was the white flesh. After a few seconds, the blood started to pour out. Then I looked at my elbow and I thought I was about to pass out, because of the amounts of blood coming out of me. Everybody came running to me when they saw me fall down.
My older brother helped me in the house. I had to put most of my weight on him because I could barely walk. My mom was cleaning up the kitchen and I told her to turn around. When she saw me, she stood there like a block of ice. But then she realized that her facial expression was only scaring me even more, so she shook out of it and help me sit down on the counter. She told my older sister to go get some towels and wet them to put on my knee and elbow. She called my dad in and told him to go get some band-aids, peroxide, and some type of cream. My mom put the wet, cold towels on my elbow and it burned so bad. But as soon as she put one on my knee, I screamed to the top of my lungs. She quickly pull it off and put it back on again. It felt like somebody was cutting off my leg.  It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. My dad came back in the kitchen with the supplies.
“You should put rubbing alcohol on her knee and elbow to kill the germs,” said my dad.
“NO! That will only make it burn even more. Please just put on the peroxide and cream,” I said.
“Okay, Okay I won’t put any rubbing alcohol on it but I have to finish cleaning off this blood or it will get infected,” said my mom.
Once my mom got my knee and elbow to stop bleeding, she put this cream-like stuff on it and wrapped it up really well. I had to sleep in the living room for about week and half because my mom wanted to keep an eye on me during the night. During the first few days of that week, I couldn’t walk at all. I bruised my knee really badly all the way down to the bone. Every time I tried to walk, I would feel sharp pains go up my leg. My elbow stopped hurting after about four days.
When I thought everything was better, I found out that my knee had gotten infected. It was gross because stuff was oozing out of it, so my mom had to go out and buy some more stuff to put on it. She helped me change the bandages every two hours.
Looking back on this incident, I have learned a lot of life lessons. For example, I should have never been running races with flip flops on. Also I should have been running in the middle of the street instead of the side because the side of the street had a lot of small rocks and dirt on it.
