I
am 14, and for the past ten years I have been a dancer. As I got older I became
better and better. The very first time I started to dance I knew it was meant
for me. As I have gotten older I have moved up in levels and get to do
different things. I have practice during the weeks for about 10 months, then
after that I have a recital.
The
dance recital is when millions of people come to watch me perform. I get so
nervous when I am about to go on stage because I might fall or forget some
steps. The more nervous I get, the more steps I will forget... When I was in
fifth grade, I started competing, and I got to travel new places, meet new
people, and learn new things. We practiced more and had to learn our routines a
lot faster.
To
get on the team, I had to try out. I had three days to learn a routine, and
then I had to perform it in front of three judges. I practiced day and night until
tryouts. I thought that I wasn’t going to make it, and I knew my parents would
be so disappointed if I didn’t make it.
I had to try out in a group of three. I walked
I walked in I looked around, the room is a grey color with paintings all over
the wall, and smelled like sweat. They started the music and I did the routine.
As soon as I finished I had to stand and wait for them to evaluate us, then we
walked out of the room. All the other girls did the same thing we did. When we
were all done we have to leave.
When
I left I knew that I had to do something to get my mind off of it. My dad took
me out to dinner and then we came back home. As soon as I got home I went to
sleep because I didn’t want to stress out about it.
The
next morning I woke up and I heard my dad yell “Chelsea come here.” I walked
into my parent’s room and my dad had the email up on his laptop that said if I
made it or not. The first word I saw said “congratulations!” I looked at my dad
and he smiled and said “You made the team!”
I
realized that if I practice, I can be successful at anything. Just like if you
study you will pass the test. I learned so much from this experience and I plan
to do the competition team until I graduate high school.
