“The summer After Fifth Grade” by James Justice

At the end of fifth grade, I moved into a new house I was leaving all my friends behind from elementary. When I had first looked at the house there was a little boy across the street in a tree. I did not know it at the time, but there were two other kids that lived there. I had become good friends with all of them. Summer had just begun and it was a new start.
One day I was at my house when one of the boys had come over and knocked on my door he asked if I could come over and get in there pool. I walked over stepped on the ladder and looked down at it looked as if it was a bottomless pit of a greenish looking swamp with a bunch of leaves with algae. I said “Are you kidding me”! I stuck my finger in it and it had this slimy feel to it.  He started laughing and said “I’ll go in first”. He stepped in and went under the dirty water, he was going in a circle while he was swimming I didn’t understand what he was doing until he came up from the water and said My names brad.
On a hot summer day we were all siting on my carport as the sun was beating down on us. We couldn’t think of anything to do until one of had said “how about we make bows and arrows” So we did. We had found long bendable sticks and string. Surprisingly when we had all shot the arrows they went far! We kept improving them to wear we would shoot trees with them. While we were in the woods we found a tree that had fallen on his side. We climbed up the fallen tree. There had been ivy that was growing on it. Once I had gotten to the top as far as we could go I had slipped and as I was about to fall I jumped to the closest tree beside it. I was sliding down it as my
The one thing I will never forget is the day we had to run from someone. We were all in the woods and I had stumbled upon a large gate that had a long drive way. I ran back to tell the others about it. When we had all gotten across to the other side where the gate was it was closed when I was first there but when we had gotten back to it the gate was open. We thought maybe the guy that had lived at the top of the drive way. We all started walking up the long drive way we looked behind us every now and then to make sure there was no one there. When we had gotten to the top of the drive way there was a huge house with a tennis court and beautiful statues. This guy had to be wealthy! We had seen a truck parked in the grass so we thought that the man was at his house. So as we were walking down the driveway back to the gate I see the lights of the car! I yell RUN! As all of us sprint back into the woods. My heart was racing as we were running. Eventually we got back to my car port and acted calm. From that day forward we all had a strong bond of friendship.
It’s been roughly over three and a half years of living where I live now and I’m glad that I live where I do now.  There have been many adventures but everything has to come to an end. At the end of 8th grade two of the friends that I had met were going to move out of the house. From that day forward my summer didn’t feel as crazy and awesome as it used to be.
