Best Day of My Life by Emilie Brady-White

August 7, 2010, I was ten. It was a cool breezy summer day. I woke up ready as ever. I got up, said good morning to everyone, and was on my way to get my hair done. As the day continued and the wedding got closer and closer, I out my dress on and went upstairs to go talk to my future stepmom. We ended up taking hours of pictures, but all I could think about was how excited I was to gain Lisa as my stepmom.

As the day continued I noticed things about my stepmom that I hadn’t noticed till that day, she looked absolutely beautiful in her dress, she could not stop smiling, and she laughed all day. When we got to the wedding the house looked beautiful. There were flowers everywhere, and wherever you turned you could smell daisies, and food. People were already crying even though the wedding hadn’t happened yet.

It was my turn to walk down the aisle and I was a little nervous. All I did was focus on looking at my dad and trying not to fall. When it was Lisa’s turn to walk down the aisle, all I noticed was my dad’s face and how happy he was. I also heard everyone’s sniffles, but saw all the joy in their faces.

During the ceremony I actually gotten to see everything around me, but now that I was just standing there it was getting hot. Thankfully, there were trees everywhere with lanterns hanging down and flowers. I could feel the freshly cut soft green grass between my toes. I don’t think I heard a single word of the ceremony. I couldn’t pay attention. All I could think about was my new family and how excited I was to eat. I hadn’t even noticed when it was my turn to walk back up the aisle.

While everyone was eating and laughing, we were taking even more pictures. We didn’t get to actually sit down with eh family and eat until an hour and a half later. After we ate, there were the dances. I was really nervous when my dad had asked me to do the father daughter dance with him, but super excited too. When I got up in front of everyone started dancing with my dad, I felt really happy that I had an amazing dad who loved and cared about me.

While the reception was still going on my stepmom gave me a card, and then she said to me,” Em, you have no idea how happy and excited I am to start our new journey together and to see you grow up, my sweet em.”And it made me really excited too. I couldn’t believe I was begging this whole new journey with my dad and my new stepmom Lisa.

After the reception it was time for my dad and Lisa to leave, and I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to the day to be over. I wanted it to continue forever. Everything was hectic making sure they had everything, saying goodbye to everyone. It was starting to get cool and the green ballerinas on the trees were dancing. As they were going down the stairs, bubbles were going in every which way, and I was helping them get their suitcases in the trunk. As I turned around I gave them hugs and said goodbye. After they left I went back to the hotel with my cousins and had a huge sleepover. Even though it was four years ago I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
