Off to Mexico! by Kaylee Hopkins

When we first arrived at the airport, we got notified that there was changes in our flight and we had to wait for what seemed like a thousand hours. My mom, step dad, and I just had to sit and wait for our flight to be called. They didn’t even give us a time estimate. Hours later they eventually called our flight, and it was the small plane crowded with a ton of people. I remember there was this annoying man that was in front of me and he smelled of very bad body odor and ate the entire time. My first experience was awful.
Hours later we arrived at the airport in Cancun, Mexico. Then we had to wait there for several more hours because with our flight change, they lost our luggage somewhere. Since they lost everything we had to go shopping for all new clothing. We found this huge place like Walmart, but in there everything was in Spanish so it was really weird trying to find things.
Later on after our little shopping experience we went to the hotel to check in. the place was awful. As soon as I walked in the smell just hit me, the beds were as hard as rocks, there were these 4 foot long lizards roaming around the building everywhere, and apparently this place was rated 5 star! The only good thing about it was the pool worker would give me free drinks every time I went down there.
The next day we decided to go to the beach, but since we didn’t have a car we had to ride this crowded bus there. It was packed with Mexicans and they were all speaking Spanish and I could not understand a word of what they were saying. When we arrived at the beach, it was not what I was expecting whatsoever. The water was a dark murky green and filled with seaweed, and the ocean was tied off after 4 feet into the ocean and you weren’t allowed to cross the line. After playing on the beach for a while we went to eat. Up farther on the beach there was this little buffet, and as soon as I walked in the smell made me sick, all I could smell was the fish, which is normal for it being all seafood. Looking at the food there wasn’t anything that was really appealing and everything that I tried had no taste or was vile.
The next day we went down to this market where people were selling things that they had made. They would just run up to you and say things like “I will give you this if you give me 20 American dollars.” If you said no, they would just sit and try to bargain with you to get you to say yes. I remember this guy was selling glass dolphins and I really wanted one and they were like 30 dollars. My mom had said to him, “I will give you 5 dollars for it.” He quickly agreed to the deal do we did a lot of bargaining that day and ended up with a lot for a cheap price. When we got back to the hotel they told us that they found all of our luggage and had it sitting up front for us. “They put your stuff on the wrong plane,” the man said. Everyone was full of joy that we got all of our stuff back, and then our day just progressed as normal.
There were a few days left in the trip, so we went to many new places that seemed like we might enjoy them and I had a lot of new experiences. On the way home we were on a much larger plane that wasn’t full of dreadful people. The wait wasn’t as near as long as on the way there. My trip to Cancun wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. There were a lot of negative experiences but there were also some new ones. I got to discover new things, and try different things. I thought it would be some amazing resort type of things but it was kind of the opposite, I guess everything doesn’t turn out as you would hope!
